For the last two years I have been trying to finish a book that has a peculiar premise with an equally unusual name – Hangi Pants. If you are Maori, you will know what this is slang for, if you don’t know, visit my blogsite www.hangipants.com to learn more and read the first three chapters.

I decided to write this book, because I was personally going through a period of my life where I realised as a woman and a Maori, I had some things I hadn’t felt I had the freedom to say. Hangi Pants was my ‘no boundaries’ place where I could express myself.

Initial feedback from one person (it only takes one person to undermine you) was I was going to come under fire for the topic and the title, so in a brave step I posted my URL on my Facebook page as a testing ground. It was hugely scary and I nearly didn’t do it, but I am so glad I did. My feed went crazy with nothing but praise for the writing, voice and topic. A kuia (older respected Maori woman), absolutely loved it and wrote me personal messages of praise.

So, I’m nearly a third of the way through the book and my goal is to finish it in 90 days, then find a publisher.

What would you create today if you had no fear of judgement? Maybe you just need to find one person who believes in your vision.
